Having been born into poverty and having lost his father when he was only four, Ouyang’s life could have turned out to be a lot worse. Instead, because of his optimism, diligence, and perseverance, he overcame life's difficulties and became one of the greatest literary scholars in the Song Dynasty and in Chinese history.
